Commissioned by the Trustees of the Hospital of St. Cross
and Almshouses of Noble Poverty, Winchester
Charles was commissioned to design and make a gate for the Master’s Garden. A variety of designs, in keeping with the historic surroundings,
were submitted to the Trustees and ‘Brothers’ for approval.
Furthermore the Master’s Garden contains a large carp lake from which
otters were systematically removing the fish. Part of the brief was to make
the gate otter-proof.
Made in mild steel, the curving bars represent moving water of the lake enhanced by a stainless steel Cross of Jerusalem.
Designed, made and installed by Charles Normandale
and the team from Wheely Down Forge Ltd
